Edinburgh, Scotland

Edinburgh Dungeon - a new attraction showing the dark side of Scotland's history, not for the faint-hearted. The tour guide takes you around and there is a lot of talking, which means you miss out a lot. There is little information printed on the walls. Full cost is around £6.50, pay a discounted rate of £5.50 for disabled adult. You may be given a voucher of £2 off for up to 5 people the next time you go there

Camera Obscura - living up to its slogan of 'Where seeing is not believing', there are exhibits of the Magic Gallery - morph yourself, Light Fantastic with holograms. Also, there is Edinburgh In Camera where you are taken on a tour of the city without leaving your seat. The script is provided but you should read it beforehand as the tour is carried out in the dark. Outside at the top are 360-degree views of the city with information points

Shaping the Nation - learn about Scotland and test yourself against the questions in this new exhibition

Virtual rides - in the same place as Shaping the Nation, there are three different rides with Grand Prix being my favourite as it's the fastest! Three rides plus Shaping the Nation exhibition is £5.50 discounted rate for disabled against full price of £9 though you may only choose one ride if you wish

The Scotch Whisky Heritage Centre - this is only by tour and scripts are provided. Discounted rate given. First up is a taste of the whisky before the tour starts in two different rooms before you go on the barrel ride of the 300-year history of whisky. Get a certificate to prove you are now a lifelong friend of this place! Open 10-5

Museum of Childhood - free of admission with donation points, there are many exhibits in five galleries dating many centuries consisting of old dolls, items used to look after the babies, old toys and games, bikes - anything to do with children. Shop closes 5pm with one gallery being closed at a time as time gets close to 5:00
