Mission Beach Resort, Mission Beach
This is more of a holiday home due to the large size and many rooms. It is
close to the beach and for activities and trips to Dunk Island
- $18, fourth night free
- Single beds are available here if you hate bunk beds. Bunk beds are also
available
- Swimming pool and spa - warm
- Resort is five different areas in one
- Shopping centre at entrance to resort
- Supermarket is expensive - no large supermarket
- Ensuite and TV in dorms, fridges in dorms
- Air conditioning in some dorms, fans in other dorms
- Key may be required for air conditioning for extra charge
- 5 minute walk to Wongaling Beach, 45 minute approx to Mission Beach and

Southbank Village, Townsville
This hostel offers excellent value and is conveniently close to town. The
staff are laidback and friendly and helped me with my decisions about baggage
and the diving course. There is a relaxed setting

- Internet nearby (5 minutes free)

- One kitchen per house of dorms - the kitchens are kept clean

Arkies Resort, Arcadia, Magnetic Island
This hostel is extremely cheap, ideal for those staying for a while. There
is plenty to do around the hostel
- As low as $8 per night when staying 5 nights
- Kitchen
- Staff is very friendly and willing to help make phone calls
- No TV room but TV in bar
- Dorms are mixed with ensuite
- Good air conditioning in dorms
- Security: dorm keys but no lockers
- No large supermarket on Magnetic Island - nearest is very expensive (15
minute walk)
- Mini shopping centre at resort

- Internet $6 per hour or $5 for per hour when paying for two hours - can
use a bit at a time rather than in one go: use card
- Beach across the road - Geoffrey Bay but water is shallow and rocky in
parts, not clean though warm
- Snorkelling in Alma Bay, wreck in Geoffrey Bay
- No deposit for crockery but for pillow!
- Nearest village is Nelly's Bay
- Bike hire at hostel ($15 per ½ day) but too hilly to ride!

This hostel is owned by Arkies so the standards are similar. The staff may
be friendly
- Kitchen - there are microwaves, toasters, frypans – not full size kitchen
but breakfast room
- All rooms are fully airconditioned
- There is most definitely fire equipment in the kitchen – the laws provide
for this and we would not be able to have people in house without it
- Close to beach
- Supermarket across road or cheap one (Bi-Lo) ½ hour walk away
- $12
- Room security: keys provided. Lock balcony doors at night
- Internet and shops or use around village $4 per hour or $2-2.50 per hour
in early morning) or $3 any day and time, or 3 minutes free

Though the standards are basic in cheap dorms, this hostel offers extremly
excellent value with its great offers and free transport
- $5.50 subject to availabilty for dorm in bunkhouse
- $11 for cabin with ensuite with cooker
- Bunkhouse is very close to swimming pool, kitchen, toilets and laundry
- Pots and crockery hire from shop - deposit is refundable - hire as much
as you need for $5 or $10
- Either dorm is mixed
- Kitchen is sheltered with two walls - open air. There may be no toaster
or microwave but gas stove is fast; refrigerator. Dining area next to kitchen
but not smoke free
- 2-minute walk to small supermarket or 10-minute walk to Bi-Lo
- No TV room - TV in bar and movies shown daily in bar
- Courtesy buses every hour or ½ hour walk to Airlie Beach township
- Laundry poor water quality so cold wash recommended
- Friendly staff

Namoi Hills Cattle Station, Dingo
If you stay for a few days, you can do a few activities such as horseriding
and making a didgeridoo. The tour consists of a lot of talking so you miss
out

This hostel offers tours to Fraser Island
- Fraser Island tours start here - tour meetings have a lot of talking.
- Awareness of deaf: during the meeting, one staff member was aware of me
missing out and filled me in some things about the meeting
- Kitchen - kitchens are in mobile homes and cabins -
- Toilet and shower block outside - not mixed
- Cold water laundry
- Cheap internet for $3 ph in reception - cheaper than internet cafes outside
which are more expensive and few in numbers
